Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri has arrived in Iran for the first time since the severance of diplomatic relations between Tehran and Cairo in 1980, Alalam reports. The representative of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry clarified that Shukri will return to his homeland after the farewell ceremony. Egypt and Iran broke off relations when the Egyptian authorities gave asylum to Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi, who was dethroned during the Islamic Revolution. One of the reasons for breaking relations was the signing of the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty.
