Apple is preparing an iPhone 12 software update that will reduce the specific absorption rate (SAR). The changes will be exclusively on the devices in the European Union, 9TO5MAC reports.
The reason for the settlement was the allegations of the French regulatory bodies, where last year Apple was suspected of exceeding the allowable SAR level. After the inspection, the company released iOS 17.1 update, which reduced the indicators for French users.
Now the European Commission has demanded that such a decision extends to all the iPhone 12s operating in the EU. The smartphone will not have a new function or restriction due to update.
In 2023, the French National Frequency Agency (ANFR) announced a temporary ban on the sale of iPhone 12 due to exceeding the allowable SAR level, which forced Apple to release corrective update.
