The BRICS countries agreed on criteria for a partner state

The expansion of BRICS in the future will occur through the filter of criteria for the partner state, said Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Yuri Ushakov.
“The association agreed on important criteria for a partner state, and further expansion of BRICS will pass through this filter,” Ushakov told reporters.
He said that a list of 13 states had been agreed upon. “For now we decided not to publish the names of these countries, because we will need to talk with them about their level of readiness to join either full-fledged membership in BRICS, or in some appropriate form,” said the Kremlin representative. 16th summit of the heads of state BRICS States, which is a key event of the Russian Federation's chairmanship in the association, takes place in Kazan from October 22 to 24. The BRICS association was created in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India and China, and South Africa joined in 2011. On January 1, 2024, Egypt, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia became full members of the group. The summit in Kazan will be the first in which new members of the association will take part. Representatives from more than 30 countries are expected to attend. Among the foreign leaders who arrived in Kazan are, in particular, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
