An informal lunch for the heads of delegations of the BRICS countries began in Kazan

An informal lunch for the heads of delegations of the BRICS countries who arrived at the summit of the association began in Kazan. The informal meeting is the first joint event for the leaders and heads of delegations of the BRICS countries at the summit in the capital of Tatarstan.

The lunch takes place in the Kazan Town Hall, where in the 19th century the Kazan nobility held meetings, balls and charity evenings were organized. Before the event, Russian President Vladimir Putin, as chairman, personally greeted the delegations of all countries.

Putin, during negotiations with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, noted that the evening events would be the “opening ceremony” of the summit in Kazan.

Earlier, Putin held a series of international meetings on the sidelines of the summit in Kazan; the president held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and the head of the BRICS New Development Bank, Dilma Rousseff. BRICS summit in Kazan runs from October 22 to 24. BRICS is an interstate association created in 2006. Russia assumed the chairmanship of BRICS on January 1, 2024.

The year began with the addition of new members to the association - in addition to the Russian Federation, Brazil, India, China and South Africa, it now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Russia's BRICS Chairmanship is held under the motto of strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security. As part of its chairmanship, the Russian Federation organizes more than 200 political, economic and social events.
