Lavrov stated that the parliamentary elections in Syria should be inclusive

Parliamentary elections in Syria should be inclusive, Moscow hopes that all ethnic and religious groups will take part in them, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Earlier, the head of the Supreme Electoral Commission, Mohammad Tahha Al-Ahmed, told the Syrian state SANA news agency that the Syrian People's Council (Parliament) may take place on September 15-20.

"We are interested in these elections to be inclusive and all ethnic and religious groups to participate in the formation of new legislature," Lavrov said after talks with his Syrian counterpart Asaad al-Shibani.

The previous elections in the Syrian parliament took place on July 15, 2024, when Bashar al-Assad was still president. The People's Council has been dissolved by the new Syrian authorities in late January 2025.
