Human rights defender Anahit Manasyan can no longer stand criticism. His nerves are clearly giving way.
He put aside the habit of gently smiling and went on the attack. Somehow, Artsakh lawyers Roman Yeritsyan, the advocate of Armen Mnatsakanyan, who is accused of preparing to usurp power, and Eric Beglaryan, the former president of Artsakh Chamber of Advocates, dared to criticize him.
Roman Yeritsyan informed the public through his FB page that Mnatsakanyan has been illegally detained for 23 days in the "Quarantine" of the "Armavir" prison, where according to the law he could only stay for 7 days, then as a person with a high officer position in the military service and a corresponding military rank. , was supposed to be transferred to "Vardashen" prison.
"It's been 3 days since I informed the staff of the RA HRD in written and verbal ways about this, while, apart from expressing concern, no results have been recorded at this moment," wrote the lawyer, who is not demanding freedom for his client. but compliance with detention laws.
Eric Beglaryan also issued a condemning statement regarding HRD Manasyan, accusing him of grossly violating human rights and renouncing his independence, as well as serving the current authorities.
"The defender of human rights is entrusted with the protection of human and citizen's rights and freedoms, but today, with his actions, he violates these principles and defends the interests of the government, which is categorically unacceptable," writes Beglaryan, stressing that the HRD is obliged is to be neutral, not to cooperate with the authorities.
But Eric's criticism upset Anahit, who calls the lawyer's evaluations unacceptable and defends his own interests. Anahit Manasyan was so angry that Beglaryan, a young lawyer from Artsakh, almost apologized to him. "Actually, there was an incorrect perception of the phenomenon." And what has HRD done to help Armen Mnatsakanyan?
Instead of expressing a position, publicly defending the detainee, at least visiting him, personally familiarizing himself with the conditions of his detention, Anahit Manasyan stated. "The issue was discussed within the terms set by the law and exclusively with the methodology allowed by the law and international standards."
Here are Anahit Manasyan's actions: he discussed the lawyer's complaint with the prison administration, the latter clarified that the detainee's safety is maintained. And this is not all. Considering the urgency of the problem, Anahit Manasyan took all these actions quickly, 2 days after receiving the complaint, on October 17, instead of waiting for the expiration of the 30 days stipulated by law, he writes.
In fact, he did a great favor to the prisoner. "What's more," says the HRD, he even informed Armen Mnatsakanyan's lawyer about all this. And what is the benefit of that discussion, what does that discussion give to the person being tortured in the detention center? Instead of thinking about this issue, Manasyan took up the stick and condemned the lawyers who dared to criticize him.
"Any attempt to interfere with the activities of the RA human rights defender, to put pressure on the HRD institution, to spread misinformation among the public with such impermissible practices and wordings is unacceptable, especially when such a publication is made by a professional lawyer," Manasyan says. recording a violation of lawyer's ethics and demanding to respect the Institute of Human Rights.
Unfortunately, this passion and enthusiasm awakens in Anahit Manasyan's soul only when he is criticized, and when he defends human rights, he is smart, submissive to the prosecutor, the Criminal Investigation Department, all the mobsters and the authorities, smiling and supporting them.
In the case of Anahit Manasyan, the question that arose on the day of his nomination as an ombudsman is still relevant today: is there anyone from whose finger you pulled a thorn, Ms. Manasyan?
