Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met in Istanbul with members of the Politburo of the Palestinian Hamas movement and discussed the latest situation surrounding the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, the Turkish Foreign Ministry reports.
"Today (October 18 - ed.), Minister Fidan held a meeting with the Chairman of the Hamas Council, Mohammed Darwish Ismail, and members of the Hamas Politburo. During the meeting, the humanitarian situation in the region, especially in the north of Gaza, was discussed. Minister Fidan stated that Ankara will use all means diplomacy to mobilize the international community to combat the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza," the statement said.
Also during the meeting, the latest situation in the negotiations to reach a ceasefire agreement, which would allow for the exchange of hostages and prisoners, was discussed.
"During the meeting, the process of inter-Palestinian reconciliation was discussed. Minister Fidan expressed his satisfaction with the latest meeting organized by Egypt in Cairo," it added.
In addition, Fidan expressed condolences to the Hamas leadership in connection with the death of the head of the Politburo, Yahya Sinwar.
