The United States is putting pressure on the Lebanese authorities to start the process of disarmament of Shiite Hezbollah as soon as possible. This is due to the desire to normalize relations between Washington, Lebanon and Israel, according to The National newspaper, citing sources.
"According to the recently submitted by US ambassadors, hezbollah is expected to place a weapon at the established period, and the cabinet is obliged to officially establish this process to give legal force," the source of the Lebanese Parliament said.
He added that Washington considers this step in the first stage of the process of establishing relations with Israel. According to the official, the United States insists on concluding "at least a new ceasefire agreement". At the same time, the source claims that the Lebanese authorities did not reject the US demands.
The government and the parliament hold consultations to change the US document and make it "more acceptable" for the Lebanese side.
