Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that his country will recognize Palestine's independence in the near future.
There is already a Palestinian Ambassador to Malta, and in 2024 the country defended the UN General Assembly's resolution recognizing the right to full membership in Palestine, but has not yet officially announced the recognition of Palestine.
According to Abela, the announcement will be announced on June 20 at an international conference on Saudi Arabia and France with the support of the United Nations. Representatives of the Maltese authorities have made it clear that their country will not be the only one who will announce the conference on the recognition of Palestine.
According to Axios, France also intends to recognize Palestine's independence in June. French President Emanuel Mcron spoke about the plans to make such a statement in the "coming months" in April 2025.
