After Macron's remarks about the founding of Israel, Netanyahu accused him of disrespect

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believes that French President Emmanuel Macron showed his ignorance of history and showed disrespect by declaring that the state of Israel was created on the basis of a UN resolution.

“This shows ignorance and lack of respect for history. The UN recognized the right of the Jewish people to have a state, but, naturally, it did not create it," Netanyahu said in an interview with Le Figaro newspaper. According to him, Israel gained statehood as a result of the War of Independence.

Netanyahu added that the UN "did not participate in the 1948 war," but people who "survived the Holocaust and the Vichy regime" did. In the latter case, we are talking about the collaborationist government of France, which operated during the German occupation during the Second World War. "Therefore, to say that the UN created the state of Israel is a gross distortion of history," Netanyahu concluded.

Earlier, the newspaper Le Parisien, citing sources, reported that at the closed meeting of the Council of Ministers, Macron said that Netanyahu should remember the circumstances of the creation of the Jewish state, which emerged on the basis of the UN resolution.
