German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had a telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jindp, during which he had supported the rapid approval of the ceasefire in Ukraine. The official representative of the German Cabinet Stefan Cornelius told reporters in Berlin about this.
"Both leaders have exchanged views on international and regional issues," he said, noting the Ukrainian conflict was also discussed. "Chancellor has informed the joint efforts of Europe and the United States to reach a quick ceasefire. He called on support of those efforts, "Cornelius said.
According to him, Merz and C. Jindpin stressed their readiness to work together to overcome the world challenges, emphasize the importance of economic relations between Germany and China. At the same time, Merz noted the need for fair competition.
"Chancellor and China's president agreed to continue direct dialogue in the near future for the further development of German-Chinese cooperation," the German Cabinet Representative concluded.
