Prada and Axiom Space have unveiled new clothing for lunar missions

Italian fashion house Prada and private space company Axiom Space have unveiled a new joint design for astronaut clothing to be used on NASA's Artemis 3 mission to the Moon. It is scheduled for 2026, Reuters reports.

Outwardly, the clothes do not differ much from those worn by astronauts in the past. It's the familiar oversized white suit, but it's updated with red accents on the sleeves and waist, and gray patches on the knees and elbows.

“The new Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU), as the suit is called, was unveiled at the International Astronautical Congress in Milan. It is designed to combine highly engineered functionality and aesthetics to operate in challenging lunar environments,” the statement said.

According to the agency, the two companies said in a joint statement that the suit is designed to withstand the extreme temperatures of the lunar south pole, as well as the coldest temperatures in the permanently shadowed regions. It is stated that the temperature resistance will last at least two hours.
