AFP. The former president of Mauritania has been sentenced to 15 years in prison


The Mavritanian Court of Appeal sentenced former President Mohamed Uld Abdel Aziz to abuse his official powers. This was reported by AFP.

Aziz, which was headed by the country in 2008 to 2019, involved in this case together with dozens of other high-ranking officials, including two former prime ministers, former ministers and businessmen. They were accused of abuse of official authority in illegal enrichment, impact abuse and money laundering. In December 2023, the former president was sentenced to five years in prison. The hearing of the appellate broke out on November 13 2024.

The court also left the decision to confiscate Aziz's assets and deprive him of civil rights.
