US President's Special Envoy Steven Whitcoff has expressed confidence that Russia is interested in a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.
"I think that the Russians really want a peaceful solution. Both sides are trying to find out what it means to them. Our job is to unite them and show that they should not go through a way that is not a peaceful solution, "he told Breitbart News.
According to the official, US President Donald Trump has asked him to have a dialogue with all parties to understand each side's position and to find a solution.
"We are in favor of direct negotiations between the two sides as soon as possible. We need to make sure that everyone thinks that the path to solving this problem is diplomacy, he said.
