India is open to the gradual reduction of car imports from EU countries to 10%, Reuters reported, citing sources.
"The European Union wants India to renounce car imports as part of a commercial deal. India is open to 10 percent to more than 100 percent to reduce customs duties, "the agency said, citing two sources in the field and a government representative.
According to Reuters, the customs duties will be a victory for European carmakers, such as Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, but at the same time for Tesla, which belongs to the American billionaire Ilo Mikki.
Indian manufacturers require the government to maintain customs duties at least 30%.
