The presidential election campaign is officially started in Romania. The first round of voting for the election of the head of state is scheduled for May 4 (if necessary), May 18. 11 candidates are participating in the 28, of which are nominated by political parties, and 4 independently.
Two women and nine men will fight for the country's highest state position. Nikusor Dan (independent), former Prime Minister Victor Pontan (independent), Elena Lasconin (Right-Right Union for Romania).
In the past, the Constitutional Court rejected the candidacies of nationalist politicians and Diana Sosoaka, saying that they do not respect the constitutional and democratic norms. The main reason for the rejection of a number of other candidates was the insufficient number of signatures collected for their support.
