Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has appointed a new main muft of the Arab Republic, which has become Sheikh Osama al-Riffa.
According to the country's interim office, this decision was made after the meeting with the Muslim clergy in Damascus after the meeting with Ulema (theologians). This forum has been formed by Fatwow (religious commandments) compiled by 15 theologians.
"The President has appointed a large Mufti according to the constitutional powers reserved," the text reads.
"This step will contribute to the efforts of the effort to pursue a moderate religious policy and shaping the adequate legislation in modern realities."
