Vladimir Putin congratulated Badu Gunba on the victory in the Abkhazian presidential election, reminder posted on the Kremlin's website.
"Dear Badha Zurabovich, accept my sincere congratulations on the election of the President of the Republic of Abkhazia," the message reads.
Gunba's victory confirmed that the Abkhazians support internal political stability and socio-economic development of the country, the Russian leader noted.
"I hope that the Russian-Abkhazian friendly allied relations will continue to strengthen, for the benefit of our brotherly peoples," Putin said.
The second round of the presidential election took place in Abkhazia on Saturday. The winner of the politician and the first round of Advanced Advance, the opposition Advance, was fighting for the highest position of government.
