"Due to the snowfall in the Gudauri-Kobe section of the International Mtskheta-Stepantsh-Lars highway, the cross mountain pass has been closed for trucks in both directions," Hakobyan said.
The road remains open for light motor transport.
It should be reminded that Georgia is building the most dangerous part of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars highway (Gudauri-Kobi) bypassing. It's about nine kilometer tunnel.
The project envisages the construction of a 23-kilometer two-layer road, 5 bridges, 5 tunnels. After the project, the vehicles will reach Stepantsminda from Tbilisi (Border with Russia) in 1 hour 45 minutes (now reach 2 hours in 30 minutes). As a result, uninterrupted cars will be provided throughout the year.
