Alen Simonyan participated in the 6th World Conference of IPU Presidents of Parliaments in Geneva

On May 16, RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan took part in the first session of the Preparatory Committee of the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland.
 
This year, for the first time, Armenia was elected a member of the Preparatory Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union's World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments by the "Eurasia" geopolitical group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
At the opening of the session, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Tulia Exon and General Secretary Martin Chungong made a speech of welcome.
 
The president and general secretary of the CU briefly presented the results of the previous conferences, the main expectations and goals of the 6th conference.
The agenda of the upcoming conference was at the core of the discussion, particularly issues related to the establishment of world peace, sustainable development and overcoming the current challenges facing democracy.
 
With the representatives of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations (UN), the parliamentarians discussed the cooperation with international multilateral organizations in overcoming the existing challenges.
 
The emergency climate situation of the world, the impact of new and potentially dangerous technologies, violations of human rights and the rule of law, gender discrimination, political polarization and public distrust of political institutions were alluded to.
