All EU member states celebrated the importance of maintaining the territorial integrity of Denmark at the informal summit in Brussels. The head of the European Council Antonio Costa stated at the press conference following this.
"Preservation of Denmark's territorial integrity is important for all member states," he said, commenting on the position of US President Donald Trump on Greenland. Trump has repeatedly said that Greenland should join the United States.
He threatened to set high trade customs duties on Denmark if it did not give up on the island. During his first presidential period, Trump offered to buy Greenland.
As the Danish and Greenland authorities have rejected this idea. Grenland is part of Denmark as an autonomous area. In 1951, Washington and Copenhagen signed the Greenland Defense Agreement, in addition to the obligations of the NATO Alliance.
