The media learned about Scholz's plans to hold a telephone conversation with Putin

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz plans to hold a telephone conversation with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the eve of the G20 summit in Brazil in November, Zeit reports citing sources in the German government. The last telephone conversation between Scholz and Putin took place in December 2022.

Since then, the official representatives of the German government and Scholz himself have stated that they do not rule out a telephone conversation.
Earlier, Scholtz said in an interview with ZDF TV channel that the moment has come to discuss how to speed up the end of the conflict in Ukraine. Scholz also stated that both he and Vladimir Zelensky agree on the necessity of Russia's participation in the next conference on Ukraine.

In June, Scholtz said that he plans to talk to Putin in the near future. In turn, the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti that Putin has no plans to have a telephone conversation with the German chancellor yet.
