EU to provide €10 billion in aid to central, eastern European countries affected by floods

President Ursula von der Leyen of the European Commission of the European Union (EU) has announced the availability of 10 billion euros from the EU Cohesion Fund for central and eastern European countries that have been affected by floods in recent days. She announced this in Wroclaw, Poland, at a joint press conference with the prime ministers of Austria, Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, reports European Pravda.Von der Leyen assured that Europe supports Poland and other central and eastern European countries affected by these floods, and she pledged to help with funding to eliminate the aftermath of this natural disaster as quickly as possible."And therefore, we will mobilize cohesion funds in a flexible and targeted way, where you need them most," declared the President of the European Commission. She explained that these funds can be used as “pre-financing;” that is, immediately after receiving the funds and without co-financing, because it is 100% European funding."These are extraordinary times and extraordinary times need extraordinary measures. At first sight, 10 billion euros could be mobilized from the cohesion funds for the countries that are affected," Von der Leyen announced.
