Armenia will sign a strategic document with the USA. essential differences between alliance and partnership (video)

Armenia and the United States are raising bilateral relations to a new level. Today, on January 14, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will sign a document on strategic partnership between the Republic of Armenia and the United States of America. The event will take place at 22:00 Yerevan time This was announced by the RA Foreign Minister's spokesperson Ani Badalyan.

For now, Washington refrains from revealing details about the strategic document. Earlier, the president of the pro-Western "For the Republic" party, Arman Babajanyan, stated that the signing of the Armenia-US strategic partnership agreement is an important step in the direction of strengthening Armenian-American relations.

According to him, the document includes several key directions.

According to Babajanyan, in the field of security, the document will promote the modernization of defense systems, joint exercises and regional stability initiatives, giving Armenia stronger tools to protect its sovereignty.
The agreement also includes provisions on cooperation in the fields of energy, economy and technology.

In the last few years, in the conditions of the sharp deterioration of relations with Russia and the inactivity of the CSTO, discussions on the issue of seeking alternative strategic allies and ensuring Armenia's security through bilateral cooperation with other military alliances have become more than relevant. Naturally, as the main alternative First of all, the North Atlantic Alliance, NATO, is being considered. and solving the problems of military strengthening with the world's number one superpower, the United States, in the format of bilateral cooperation, using the experience of Georgia, Israel, Great Britain and other countries.

The whole problem, however, is that the United States is not signing a document on a strategic alliance, but on a strategic partnership, which are qualitatively different things Another question is how well that alliance practically meets Armenia's current requirements.

Meanwhile, against the backdrop of threats from Azerbaijan, an attempt was made to present the strategic document with the US as a rescue, that "Uncle Sam" will come soon and save Armenia from external enemies or at least provide a large amount of weapons.

In this regard, international expert Suren Sargsyan emphasized that there is no need to deceive the people, and even more so, to put the American partners in a bad situation. The expert dealing with American affairs emphasized that the United States will not provide any security guarantees, military aid, sell weapons and ammunition to Armenia with the mentioned document. This format also does not imply the deployment of an American military base or military representatives in Armenia.

In general, the signing of the document is, of course, a positive step, but the whole question is whether it will be possible to implement the document signed with the outgoing President Biden's administration in just a few days under the administration of Donald Trump.
