Azerbaijan Airlines has suspended flights from Baku to Grozny and Makhachkala

Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has suspended flights from Baku to Grozny and Makhachkala until the investigation of the plane crash near Aktau is completed.

"Azerbaijani Airlines flights on the Baku-Grozny-Baku and Baku-Makhachkala-Baku routes have been suspended until the end of the investigation," AZAL press service said.

The airline explained that flights to other destinations are carried out according to the regular schedule.

The plane of Azerbaijan Airlines flying from Baku to Grozny crashed on the morning of December 25, near the city of Aktau in the west of Kazakhstan. According to the Federal Air Transport Agency, after the plane collided with the birds, the commander decided to go to an alternative airport in Aktau.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, there were 69 people on the plane, including 5 crew members, about 30 people survived. According to the Russian Embassy, ​​10 Russians are in Aktau hospitals.
