Lukashenko has registered as a candidate for the next presidential election in Belarus

The Central Electoral Commission of Belarus has registered the current leader of the country, Alexander Lukashenko, as a presidential candidate, writes Kommersant. In support of it, the initiative group collected 2 million 518 thousand 145 signatures. The presidential elections will take place in January 2025.

Lukashenko will run for the seventh time in a row. The Central Electoral Commission of Belarus has registered four more candidates. Alexander Lukashenko first took office in 1994 and was re-elected several times.

His sixth presidential term is now ending. After the last presidential elections in 2020, the country witnessed several months of mass protests demanding Lukashenko's resignation.
