US President Joe Biden announced the decision to reduce the sentence of 37 prisoners sentenced to death.
"Today, I commuted the sentences of 37 of the 40 people sentenced to death to life imprisonment without the possibility of release," said a press release published on the White House website.
The president noted that he condemns the criminals and mourns for their victims, and also expressed his condolences to the families who lost their relatives.
In January, it was reported that Biden favors a moratorium on federal executions.
