Kobakhidze announced that the president of the country, Salome Zurabishvili, may be held criminally liable

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidzeannouncedthat the president of the country, Salome Zurabishvili, may be criminally liable if he decides to call new parliamentary elections and refuses to leave the presidential seat after the inauguration of the new head of the country, which will take place on December 29.

According to Kobakhidze, Zurabishvili held consultations with opposition politicians and representatives of non-governmental organizations with the intention of calling new elections, but he was advised to refrain from such a step. He plans to hold an emergency briefing on Sunday evening.

"I am sure that he has enough intelligence not to violate the norms of the criminal code <...>, if we imagine that he has established himself in the presidential residence, then in this case it is also a crime under the criminal code," said Kobakhidze.

He noted that "no one wants to send the 72-year-old woman to prison", but those who will be in the residence with her in this situation will also be held responsible. "We will see where she continues to live, behind bars or in freedom," concluded the Prime Minister of Georgia.
