The White House has announced that Trump is seeking to shut down the US government

The White House says President-elect Donald Trump is pushing congressional Republicans to take action that would shut down the federal government.

White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre said in a written statement Wednesday that "Republicans must end politics with a bipartisan deal" to extend federal government funding through March 14, 2025.

Otherwise, he said, Trump's party members "will create instability in the whole country". Jean-Pierre believes that "Trump and Vice President James David Vance have ordered Republicans to shut down the government, and they are threatening to do just that." The spokesperson of the White House noted that this development of events will harm many Americans.

Trump had previously harshly criticized the said bill on extending the funding of the federal government. It provides more than $100 billion for disaster relief and other needs.
