The Swiss National Council adopted a resolution on the right of return of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians

The Swiss National Council (the lower house of the parliament) today adopted a resolution by 96 votes in favor, 80 against and 16 abstentions, which calls on the country's government to convene an international peace forum to promote Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh. An open dialogue between Karabakh Armenians under international supervision to discuss their security and collective right of return. "Civilnet" informs about this.

The resolution must be submitted to the upper house of the parliament, the Council of States, and if adopted by it, it will become law.

The authors of the resolution highlight the need for a new format of negotiations to protect the rights of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh, as the capabilities of the OSCE Minsk Group are severely limited due to geopolitical tensions.

Parliamentarians believe that it is in the economic interests of Switzerland to establish stable peace in the region, taking into account the close energy cooperation with Azerbaijan. "This particularly includes the restoration of the basic rights of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. The international peace conference can make a decisive contribution to the settlement of the conflict, enable the return of displaced persons and thereby contribute to the stabilization of the entire region.
