US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken held direct talks with the ambassadors of Turkey, the European Union and Arab countries, The Guardian reports.

US representatives and ambassadors met with members of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and other groups. The details of the negotiations are not disclosed. The location of the meeting was the Jordanian city of Aqaba. "We have been in contact with HTS and other groups," commented Blinken.

After the meeting, the delegates of the USA, Turkey, EU and Arab countries issued a joint statement. In it, they expressed hope for the peaceful future of the Syrian people.

It was reported earlier that the new authorities in Damascus want to sign joint defense agreements with a number of countries. The leaders of Syria did not mention specific states.
