The international community must step up military support to Ukraine in response to Russia's escalation of violence in Donbas, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) has reported.
"The UCC, together with NATO allies, calls on Canada to increase military assistance to Ukraine, including increasing the provision of defensive weapons," the report said.

The Ukrainian organization also called on the international community to step up sanctions on Moscow.

"The UCC, in cooperation with the EU, the G7 and other like-minded nations, calls on Canada to strengthen economic sanctions on Russia, including the removal of Russia from the SWIFT international payments system, in order to exert pressure on Russia to end its occupation of Crimea and invasion of eastern Ukraine," the document reads.

The UCC also expressed its deep condolences to the family of the Ukrainian soldier who gave his life on February 18 defending Ukraine from Russia's invasion.

Russian-backed forces attacked Ukrainian positions near the villages of Novotoshkivske, Orikhove, Krymske, Khutir Vilnyi and Popasna early on February 18, killing one Ukrainian serviceman and wounding another five.
