NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine has prepared draft contracts ready for signing. A new round of negotiations with Russia’s Gazprom regarding gas transit through Ukraine will be held on December 26.
Executive Director of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Yuriy Vitrenko wrote about this on his Facebook page on December 24.

"... we have already done our "homework", we have prepared draft contracts that are ready for signing. On December 26, the teams of Ukraine’s Naftogaz and Russia’s Gazprom will meet to finalize the terms of agreements," Vitrenko stressed.

According to him, each side has its own draft agreements, but it is necessary to sign only one set of agreements. “Actually, on December 26, we will work on a common version of the contract,” he added.

Vitrenko expressed hope that the parties will agree on the terms of the contracts and complete the process on Friday, December 27.

As Ukrinform reported, at the talks in Minsk on December 20, representatives of the European Commission, Ukraine and the Russian Federation reached a final agreement on fundamental points of the transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine to European consumers and settlement of mutual claims.

At a briefing on December 21, Energy and Environmental Protection Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Orzhel said Naftogaz and Gazprom would sign a new five-year agreement on transit of Russian gas to Europe through Ukraine, with the possibility of extension for another 10 years. The transit volume will reach 65 billion cubic meters in the first year, and 40 billion cubic meters in the next four years.

Ukraine and Russia are expected to sign the contract by the end of 2019. The current deal expires on December 31, 2019.
