The Law amending the Law of Ukraine “On Pre-trial Detention” on ensuring unrestricted access of representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to detained persons entered into force on Sunday, December 22.
The text of the law has been published in the official parliamentary newspaper Holos Ukrainy on December 21

It is noted that the law enters into force on the day following its publication.

The law stipulates that the right of unhindered access to detained persons are given to representatives of the Red Cross by the administration of places of pre-trial detention, without limiting the number of such visits and their duration, in line with the terms of the 1949 Geneva Convention on the Protection of War Victims.

As reported, the law amending the Law of Ukraine “On pre-trial detention” on ensuring unrestricted access of ICRC representatives to detained persons, No. 372-IX, was approved by the Verkhovna Rada on December 12, 2019. The Ukrainian president signed the document on December 19.
