Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky may meet with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the near future as part of the next meeting of the Ukraine-Turkey High-Level Strategic Council, Political Director of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleksiy Makeyev has said.
He was commenting at Ukrinform's request on the prospects for holding a regular meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council in Kyiv with the participation of the two countries' leaders.

"We are working to ensure that the next meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council takes place by the end of the year, as our presidents agreed during their latest meeting. We talked [during Makeyev's visit to Ankara] about contacts between the leaders of our countries, and I brought a message from Kyiv that we are waiting for President Erdogan in Ukraine," he said.

According to Makeyev, there are all preconditions for holding a council meeting under the chairmanship of the leaders of the two countries.

"We need to hold a meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council. We have absolutely all the preconditions for that. When the two leaders meet, this gives a very strong impetus to the work of the state mechanism in the near future. And the state mechanism is ready for that," the diplomat added.

On November 5, Ankara hosted Ukrainian-Turkish consultations during which the sides discussed bilateral cooperation, global and regional agenda, including threats to regional security from Russia. In addition, on November 6, the presidents of Ukraine and Turkey had a phone call during which they talked, in particular, about preparations for holding another meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council and for signing a free trade agreement between Ukraine and Turkey.
