Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska have attended the enthronement ceremony for Japanese Emperor Naruhito, according to the press service of the head of state.
"During their working visit to Japan, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska took part in the enthronement of Emperor Naruhito," the report reads.

It notes that Ukraine is one of almost 200 countries whose representatives arrived in Tokyo to attend the ceremony. A Japanese emperor last ascended to the throne 30 years ago, and Zelensky became the first Ukrainian president invited to the enthronement. The ceremony lasted more than half an hour.

 

"It is a great honor for me to participate in the enthronement of Emperor Naruhito. An ancient rite in modern Japan is an example of how deep respect for traditions and the introduction of the latest high technologies can coexist in one state to improve the lives of everyone," Zelensky said after the enthronement ceremony.

The program of the Ukrainian president's working visit to Japan envisages meetings with the leadership of the chambers of the Japanese Parliament, business representatives, as well as a number of bilateral talks with the leaders of foreign countries.
